Beginnings are hard.
But we gotta begin somewhere, so this is the place. It’s newsletter Zero. I saw something profound yesterday - like most of our generation do - on Instagram. It was the drawing of a bird that was telling a human (baby?) “you must learn to proceed without certainty”. The quote pushed me to make a mental list of all the times I’ve done something with NO guarantee that it would work out, and gosh I’ve been lucky -
I said no to a great college in Bangalore because my gut told me that I’d get into a Germany university (I did)
I took up digital art and pottery - I’m pretty good at those too
I adopted my cat, Kulfi and she’s my greatest joy
So Mamma Mia! Here we go again.
I don’t know how many of you will read this, but like my friend Sanj (who writes newsletters and introduced me to this platform) says, “just talk to an audience who listens to you”. So here we are, with time on my hands and an iPad in my hands - trying to find my audience.
I hope you are like me - tired of the hustle culture, the older sibling burnout and the individualistic community. And I wonder if, like me, are trying to live a slower life that she never thought was possible. People who have multiple interests and are told that we must find an interest and stick to it. People who are curious and learning and unlearning and relearning and just… growing. I cannot guarantee this will in anyway be the best of literary work, but I also intend for this space to develop a writing practice again.
This is free for now because far too many things tend to be paywalled or unreasonably unaffordable. I intend to post once a week, and once in a while I will try to include some original art work as well! Like this super adorable kitten.
Until the first newsletter,
Vedi
